Hey guys, When using Pantone+ Solid Coated colors in Illustrator, the default way is set color mode to "CMYK" as shown in picture one. Is this possible to change the default to be "Book Color" as shown in picture two? I need all of my pantones to export in the seperations for my rip software, but.   Understanding the difference between CMYK and RGB can be very important to designing your comic book print files for commercial printing. Litho Ninja’s offset printing press uses a 4-color process and therefore your comic book print files should always be submitted as CMYK, not RGB. RGB refers to the primary colors of light, Red, Green and Blue, th.

Pantone printing, on the other hand, is color specific and takes highly precise mixes of ink to create an exact color. It uses pre-determined colors to “match” a certain color used in the design process. Thus, it’s known as the Pantone Matching System. The main difference between CMYK and Pantone printing is the level of accuracy. This is a bit tricky. You have a couple options, you can use the Pantone Color Matching System book with PMS, RGB and CMYK color values in it or get actual samples or a book from Benjamin Moore Color Library that are closest to what you are trying to match and compare visually. If you search online, you can find a color converter that will translate your CMYK or RGB to the closest Pantone.

You can also soft proof colors (preview the effects of your CMYK conversion without actually converting) by choosing View→Proof Setup→Working CMYK. About the Book Author Barbara Obermeier is principal of Obermeier Design, a graphic design studio in California specializing in print and web design. This again is an untouched conversion. You could adjust these for a more vibrant conversion and still be within the CMYK color mode, but this demonstrates the difference well, and sets expectations for some changes you might see between a RGB supplied file and your printed book.

I would reccomend this book for all graphic designers looking to have more CMYK color options/5(50). The paper makes four passes through the press. One ink color is applied with each pass. The CMYK color model (/ s m aɪ k /; process color, four color) is a subtractive color model, based on the CMY color model, used in color printing, and is also used to describe the printing process itself.

CMYK refers to the four ink plates used in some color printing: cyan, magenta, yellow, and key (black). The CMYK model works by partially or entirely masking colors on a lighter, usually. I go into photoshop, create a CMYK mix, an RGB Mix and an HTML mix based on the Pantone book, and yeah he's right, they look darker and more Navy.

I then use the RGB and HTML values that Photoshop (and Illustrator) provide in the COlor Picker and, voilá, colors match on the screen. CMYK, as a color mode, has a fairly limited gamut. Representing Pantone spot colors in CMYK values results in a wider difference of appearance between printed output and digital artwork.

When workflows demand that Pantone colors use CMYK values, Adobe recommends that you use the Pantone Plus Series® global colors instead of spot colors. This page lists the CMYK (Cyan-Magenta-Yellow-blacK) representation of color of the form cmyk (C%, M%, Y%, K%), where C, M, Y, and K are the percent values for the cyan, magenta, yellow, and black values of the color.

The CMYK color system is used in printing inks for paper. The CMYK system is NOT used in HTML or style sheets, but is a popular. Now when you know the difference between the RGB and CMYK, let’s see how to use Pantone color book.

The green color (G) is calculated from the magenta (M) and black (K) colors. To use the converter, enter the percentage of each CMYK process color that you’re using. Leave the color distance at 32 and click “Calculate”. The converter will return the Pantone color closest to the CMYK values that you input.

For example, enter a CMYK value of 45%, %, 76%, 34% with a color distance of This returns a value of.Here's a common example: many programs translate the % Blue in RGB into a somewhat purple-looking color in CMYK. We recommend a CMYK value of to get a nice clean blue.
